10 Affordable Ways To Create A Luxurious Home

When it comes to luxurious home interiors, you don’t always have to spend a lot to get big results. We love clever decor tricks, and there are many little ways to upgrade your space, and take it from drab to fab.

Our Senior Interior Designer, Cristina Chirila, is eager to share her top affordable ways to create a luxurious home. Best of all, none of these involves pulling out your toolbox!

1. Scents

Scents for a luxurious home

“Before your guests notice how well coordinated your decor is, they should be greeted by a captivating, yet graceful scent.”

Scented candles in the hallway, living room and bathrooms, will not only be aromatic, but will also give off a soft endearing light. To carry a lingering scent throughout the home, add plug-in diffusers to the different rooms. These will passively release fragrance into the air all day.

2. Tissue Boxes & Sleeves

There is a sense of glamour that is brought to a room when you add a stylish tissue box to a side table.

Instead of the generic packaging your tissues came in, empty them into a chic glass, marble or metallic dispenser. Alternatively, purchase fashionable sleeves that you can simply slip onto the original box to cover it.

3. Brand Free Containers

One of my biggest pet peeves is branded packaging.

“When your counters or cupboards are full of brightly coloured packets and boxes, it just looks tacky – no matter how well you arrange them.”

Investing in non branded storage will help you create a luxurious home by making your spaces look well put together. Whether glass or perspex, food items, products and detergents will be better stored in these bottles and canisters.

4. Trays

Can you ever have too many trays?

Trays are a glamorous way to store otherwise mundane items such as remotes and keys. But, more than anything a tray helps keep clutter away by limiting the amount of things you can place on a surface.

There are many fancy designs that will uplift any hallway table, ottoman, or counter space.

5. Furniture Hardware

You don’t have to keep the standard handles or knobs that came with your furniture.

A simple way to upgrade your chest of draws, pedestals and cupboards is to change the hardware to a fancier design. Most styles will be sold in affordable sets, and replacing the old ones will only take a bit of unscrewing and screwing. For a luxurious home, consider leather, metallics or interesting shapes.

6. Mulch Colourant

“Luxurious homes look as good on the outside, as they do on the inside.”

In those dry months when your front garden is covered in a tired looking mulch, your home loses a bit of its curb appeal. The solution – mulch colourant. Available in different colours, a simple spray will liven up your garden for a year round spring look.

7. Art Light

Those beautiful pieces of art that you have meticulously hung up on your walls can look even better with some lighting.

Art lights are synonymous with luxurious homes and you can bring this look into your space without breaking the bank. Purchase non wired versions that you can place above your favourite piece. These can come in battery operated models that are remote controlled to adjust the temperature of the light.

8. Closet Organisers

Whether your wardrobe is large or small, organised storage spaces are a mark of a delux home. Invest in a sunglass stand, purse/hat stands, sock/jewellery organisers, etc.

For a clutter free, expensive looking space “everything should have its place, and there should be a place for everything.”

9. Bathroom Towels Basket

Bathroom baskets

“When you have invested in premium towels, you should show them off!”

Instead of hiding them away in a cupboard, buy elegant baskets that you can display in your bathroom.

Create a spa look by using shallow designs to store rolled up face towels, then larger baskets for bath sheets.

10. Cable Organisers

For every smart device in our homes, there is a cord that comes with it. Often each adaptor is carrying five or more of these black cables. Hide your cables!

I love the sleek sockets that you can plug in and then feed your cords into. Another great solution are cord covers that match your flooring. Whatever you choose, make sure it blends into the palette in your room so that it’s unnoticeable.
